One of ADONIS's ancestors, RAFSI+ who was a famous show horse "back in the day."
RAFSI+ was a gorgeous horse,
and very athletic & talented. He was U.S. National Champion
Stock Horse in 1969 (I think it was) after being Reserve another year
... had several Top 10s, including 1973 Top 10 Trail ... which I
watched, & thought he should have won. Most of all, RAFSI+
was the beloved lifetime companion of Joanne Paddock Crockett, a
schoolteacher from Illinois, who took RAFSI+ with her when she went to
teach school on an Indian reservation ... they rode a train together
to get there ... I think it was in New Mexico, or maybe Arizona ...
some hot, desert place ... Joanne later married Bruce Crockett, who
trained RAFSI+ for the reined events, & showed him to his
National wins.
Joanne also showed RAFSI+ in
WP, costume & I think EP & probably some other classes ...
versatility was a big thing, then, with the same horse doing LOTS of
things ... their costume was brown, orange & gold, &
"cost a fortune" ... made by someone in California,
early 70s. They won a lot of Class A Championships with it,
& had a lot of fun. Costume classes are a blast! They
also rode in the Rose Bowl parade one year, in native costume.
Joanne was so proud of RAFSI+
being asked to perform at the opening ceremonies one year at Nationals
... "Proud Performers" was the theme, & several past Nat
Ch performance horses were invited, including RAFSI+. I didn't
get to see it, & have forgotten which year it was ... 1972 or
1974, I think.
I'm still amazed that RAFSI+
is in the pedigree of your stallion ADONIS ... I didn't even know that
RAFSI+ had any offspring! So glad that he did ... he was an
amazing, wonderful horse. I'd love to have a horse that traced
to RAFSI+ & I know Joanne would, too! In fact, just a few
years after these photos were taken, Joanne was very excited about finding
& buying RAFSI+'s full sister, GAI LORRAINE. Bruce
& Joanne bred her to their beautiful bay stallion, DIAMOND
TSIOUX, & she produced a chestnut colt that Joanne named
RAFSI TU ... he was the biggest pet in the barn, his whole life,
although he never "did anything" like his uncle RAFSI+ ...
he was just loved.
